This year’s Hajj was a turning point in the way pilgrimage is experienced. Saudi Arabia successfully hosted what many are calling the most technologically advanced Hajj in history. With over 1.67 million pilgrims arriving from more than 130 countries, the Kingdom delivered a seamless, secure, and spiritually fulfilling experience, supported by advanced infrastructure and smart technology.
According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, a record number of personnel – more than 250,000 from various sectors – were mobilized to ensure the safety and comfort of every pilgrim. New systems and tools helped manage crowds, monitor health conditions, and make navigation easier for all.
Blending Innovation with Tradition
This year saw a wide range of innovations that enhanced the overall pilgrimage experience. From artificial intelligence used in crowd control to smart wearables that monitored heat stress, technology played a critical role in protecting and supporting pilgrims throughout the journey.
Voice-enabled translators helped break language barriers, smart bracelets guided pilgrims around key sites, and robotic assistants offered directions and emotional reassurance. Digital immigration and biometric checks also made the arrival process faster and more efficient.
A Global Effort
Hajj 2025 wasn’t just about local planning. Saudi Arabia worked closely with over 130 countries and held more than 130 bilateral meetings to ensure smooth coordination. The “Makkah Route” initiative allowed pilgrims in selected countries to complete visa, health, and customs procedures at their home airports before even boarding the plane, minimizing wait times and reducing stress.
Currently, this initiative is active in eight countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Morocco, and continues to expand.
Personalized Pilgrim Services
Through the Nusuk platform, pilgrims were able to access essential services in their own language. The system also included real-time reporting tools, 24/7 support centers, and quality assurance features. This digital ecosystem helped ensure that the experience remained comfortable and well-supported from start to finish.
Health and Safety in Focus
Given the intense summer heat, Saudi Arabia made heat protection and health safety a top priority. Expansive shaded areas in Mina and Arafat were provided, along with thousands of misting fans, over 400 water stations, and solar-cooled rest areas. More than 20,000 trees were planted to help improve the environment and keep temperatures down. Health teams were trained to quickly respond to heat-related issues, creating a safer experience for everyone.
Looking Ahead
With Hajj 2025 successfully concluded, the Umrah season officially opened on June 10. Saudi Arabia is now turning its attention to welcoming guests year-round. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a smooth and sacred journey for all future pilgrims.
